L’Independent Panel costituito per decidere sul ricorso di Thurrock RFC e Lichfield RFC contro la decisione della RFU di escludere i due club dal neonato Women’s Super Rugby che partirà in settembre, ha deciso che entrambi gli appelli sono “unsuccessful“.
Per quanto riguarda il Lichfield RFC, una delle migliori squadre del rugby femminile inglese, secondo il panel la decisione presa di escludere le rossoverdi dalla prossima competizione è stata presa “based on the facts, and did not fall outside the process as described by the RFP. They were not persuaded in any way that the process had not been followed or that there has been any unfairness to the club.”
Il panel ha detto che la RFU non ha trattato il Thurrock RFC “unfairly or differently to any other applicant“, sottolineando che la natura del processo di selezione è “competitive and meant the applicants were to persuade the RFU that they met or would meet the minimum standards and that they were one of the most suitable teams to form the new league.”
Per le scozzesi Rachel Malcolm, Sarah Bonar e Jenny Maxwell e per tutte le ragazze tesserate col Lichfield, come Emily Scarratt, una delle migliori giocatrici delle Red Roses campionesse del Mondo in carica, sarà dunque tempo di cercare un nuovo club o restare escluse dalla massima competizione domestica inglese.
Il Lichfield chiude così con il terzo posto conquistato battendo le Saracens Ladies nella finale giocata a Worcester lo scorso fine settimana la sua avventura in Women’s Premiership.
