Domenica pomeriggio, 24 aprile (kick off 2pm) si giocheranno le semifinali della Sarah Beaney Cup, prima edizione disputata dopo lo scoppio della pandemia nella primavera 2020.
Le Watsonians detentrici del titolo, il primo della loro storia, conquistato nella finale dell’edizione 2019 contro le Hillhead Jordanhill, sfideranno lo Stirling County al Penicuik Sports Pavilion mentre le Hills ospiteranno le Corstorphine Cougars in cerca della loro prima finale.
“Our journey through the pool stages of the Cup has felt like a bit of a rollercoaster. The pool was extremely close between the top three teams, and after losing a very tight game against Heriot’s in the first round we knew that we had to switch it on for the rest of the games,” ha detto Philippa Abernethy, vice-capitana delle Hillhead Jordanhill, al sito ufficiale della Scottish Rugby. “It would mean so much to the whole team to reach the Cup Final at BT Murrayfield this year. We have had a big influx of new players this year, and the team have put in so much hard work to get ourselves in this position. A spot in the final would be the ideal end to a fantastic season.”
Le Hills hanno chiuso in vetta la Pool B a pari punti (16) con le Stirling County ma il successo ottenuto dalle Glaswegians (40-31) nello scontro diretto giocatosi nel terzo turno ha garantito loro il diritto di giocare la semifinale casalinga, evitando anche di sfidare in semifinale le Watsonians – che le hanno già battute nella finale di Tennent’s Women’s Premiership lo scorso gennaio.
Sabato 14 maggio al BT Murrayfield è in programma il Silver Saturday con le finali di Sarah Beaney Cup, Plate e Bowl.
