Il Six Nations Council ha un presidente scozzese, per la prima volta, dopo quasi vent’anni.
John Jeffrey, ex terza linea della Nazionale scozzese, è stato infatti eletto come Chairman del Six Nations Council per i prossimi tre anni, prendendo il posto di Pat Whelan (che ha ricoperto il ruolo dal 2016). Jeffrey (membro del Council dal 2012) è il primo Chairman scozzese degli ultimi vent’anni, prima di lui ci fu Allan Hosie che ricoprì il ruolo a fine Anni Novanta/inizio Duemila.
Come vice-presidente è stato eletto Bernard Laporte (FFR).
Jeffrey è un membro dello Scottish Rugby Council dal 2010 e ha rappresentato la Scozia nei consigli di World Rugby e Six Nations. Jeffrey, nato a Kelso (negli Scottish Borders) ha raccolto in carriera 40 caps con la Scozia (carriera tra il 1984 e il 1991) ed è anche stato selezionato coi British & Irish Lions nel 1986.
“It is a privilege to be elected Chairman of the Six Nations Council and to be involved in the development of Rugby’s Greatest Championship. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor Pat Whelan for his dedication over the last three years,” ha detto Jeffrey.
La presidente della Scottish Rugby, Dee Bradbury, ha aggiunto che “this is an excellent appointment and I am delighted for JJ to now be in this role. He has represented Scotland with great integrity at a global and local level for many years and his insight and counsel have always been of value. I’d like to wish him well in his new role and am pleased we have a Scottish representative in such a key position.”
